This tip of the hat to Robert Louis Stevenson’s literary classic Treasure Island is destined to become a firm favorite with the millions of punters that roam the strip looking for action each year, and is described as the most expensive casino to be built since the Luxor.
With each gambling discipline given Treasure Island related names such as Long John’s Silver (poker), The Dreaded Black Spot (blackjack), The Admiral Benbow (roulette), etc, even the serious business of gambling has been given a lighter edge.
Of course, this being Las Vegas, there is far more to this casino than gambling alone; the Treasure Island Casino’s waitresses are dressed as mermaids, trailing six foot tails as they navigate the ‘Hispaniola Bar;’ It is mandatory for all Treasure Island Casino barmen to wear an eye-patch, but it’s entirely up to the individual to determine over which eye.
Each different gaming hall is designed to resemble different Treasure Island themes. You will find yourself on either the deck of a ship; a sandy beach, complete with real coconut palms; or an English tavern, and men are required to be addressed as ‘Jim Lad’, whereas women must be referred to as ‘Me Darlin’.’
The Treasure Island Casino has come under some criticism as something of a gimmick that won’t stand the test of time, but even if it only lasts five years, investors will get a healthy return, before it’s rebranded as something else.
In the meantime, should one be planning a trip to Las Vegas, dust off your cutlass, fill your pockets with doubloons and head down to the Treasure Island Casino for a little relief from the more serious venues on the Strip.
